This new shift in the fitness industry helps to close the gap between group exercise instructors and therapists or medical practitioners. The effects of these exercises can be immediate for some and may take a little longer for others, but have been proven to be fantastic tools to have in your fitness knowledge kit bag! During the first phase we ‘Normalize’ with techniques to release the muscles of the pelvis and trunk, then mobilize the nerves, free the joints and finally release the shoulder. Once released and ‘moving more freely’ it’s all about the core in phase 2 and ‘Stabilizing’ the trunk and hips in their newly corrected alignment to give that strong base of support ready for phase 3. ‘Functionalize’ is the third phase where we learn, in the first few weeks, how to condition the shoulders and also how to strengthen the hips and the knees to correct their alignment with specific exercises. In the following weeks we begin to use more functional patterns to strengthen the newly aligned shoulder and knee positions.
