The Lifestyle & Weight Management Course is designed to help personal trainers and other health and fitness professionals provide effective lifestyle coaching in the area of weight management. Upon completion of the course, you will understand the relative contributions of physical activity, nutrition and behavioral strategies for successful weight control, and be able to analyze a client’s health habits to develop an integrated and comprehensive approach.

This course is based on the ACE Lifestyle & Weight Management Coach Manual, and its DVD supplement, Fitness Life Coaching for Weight Management Success. This manual combines exercise science and the physiology of obesity with nutrition and the psychological aspects of weight management. You’ll learn how to merge these diverse disciplines into safe and effective methods of lifestyle modification and weight management.

The 105-minute DVD addresses relevant issues surrounding weight management and the growing obesity epidemic. It includes discussion on the need for, and critical role of, the Lifestyle & Weight Management Coach in terms of exercise science, nutrition and behavioral change. The DVD will help you learn to coach and empower each client by creating and implementing systematic coaching models, utilize successful exercise and weight-management strategies or overweight and obese individuals, and relay useful nutritional strategies to help clients make healthier daily dietary choices.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Explain basic nutrition, digestion, absorption and metabolism
• Define and implement a variety of behavioral strategies to help clients effectively initiate and maintain healthy lifestyle changes
• List and define key principles of nutrition and exercise related to energy balance, fat loss and health
• Identify appropriate assessments and individualize the design of an exercise program to effectively help clients maintain or achieve a healthy body composition
