A multi-media module which includes a PowerPoint slide presentation with audio, and PDF documents to read at your convenience. The slide portion takes about 30 minutes to complete and covers the background research on bone health in children and adolescents, dietary factors involved in bone health, calcium recommendations versus actual intakes in the US, and non-dietary factors involved in bone health. The slides include practical suggestions for assessing calcium intake and physical activity and tips on how to encourage clients to change their lifestyle to improve their bone health. PDF monographs include: Optimizing Bone Health in Children and Adolescents; National Calcium Recommendations; and Vitamin D Health Implications. There is also a bibliography for those seeking additional information on the topic, and handouts and resources to use in your practice. This module is a joint project of Nutrition Dimension, Inc. and the Dairy Council of California, which is solely responsible for its content.
