"Understanding the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005" presents this important document and teaches fitness professionals the important role they play in educating the public about making good choices on a daily basis. This course also highlights some of the major changes in the Dietary Guidelines, including several tools that can be used with clients to help them apply the guidelines. A good understanding of these changes will serve you well throughout your career as a fitness professional.
Course Objectives
Upon completion, students will be able to:
- List the key recommendations presented in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005
- Explain nutrition- and activity-related information to each client as it relates to his or her weight-management goals
- Discuss the role of various foods and nutrients in the overall health of individuals and identify sources of specific nutrients
- Teach clients how to handle and prepare food to reduce the risk for foodborne illness
- Explain the USDA Food Guide to clients in a way that helps them with day-to-day dietary decision making
