  • The most current exercise trends aim to induce metabolic stress upon the body to achieve great results; however, effective metabolic programming requires a good understanding of the roles of the metabolic pathways within the body. In this recorded webinar originally broadcast June 16, 2010, Fabio Comana (ACE Exercise Physiologist) reviews the fundamentals of the energy pathways and discusses the application to personal training based on the latest research. An understanding of these pathways will enhance your knowledge of the roles each macronutrient plays in energy metabolism, improve your understanding of fuel utilization, and enable you to design exercise programs to maximize your clients’ metabolic efficiency. Enjoy the benefits of an ACE instructor in the comfort of your own home through this convenient recorded webinar.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

    • Define the concept of "energy" within the body.
    • Explain the basic roles and storage sites of the three macronutrient-fuels within the body.
    • Identify the fundamental roles and limitations of the three energy pathways.
    • Describe the primary mechanisms of the phosphagen, fast glycolytic and oxidative pathways.
    • Specify key aerobic and anaerobic adaptations that occur with training.

I enjoyed this seminar. It made me realize things I forget and needed to work on. The body is such a complex object. The only issue I had was after I got them wrong I would of loved to know what the real answer was. Overall good.

Interesting and important information for sure. However, it was text-only, not enough diagrams to help explain and could have definitely used images, photos etc. to make it more interesting... in this day and age with various components (graphics, effects, use of interesting photos or even video) -- effects available even just in powerpoint, there's not much excuse for such a dry presentation. I'm sure he is a very learned instructor, but his voice and presentation really lacked liveliness and presentation ... my instructor (angela welch, here in calgary) used humour, stories to illustrate anatomy and other rather technical material like this so that we stayed awake and remembered the material ;-)

ACE RESPONSE: Thank you for the helpful feedback!

This webinar came with no materials, so it was extremely challenging to prepare for the assessment.

There were some technical difficulties. For example I was unable to maximize the page so it was quite small and difficult to see the charts. Not interactive at all.

ACE RESPONSE: Thank you for this feedback. We will look into the delivery of this course in the future.

I only wish that I was able to see the correct answers for those I missed....it was odd because out of the 5 I had wrong, it only had shown the correct answer to one question.
