  • Designed for yoga instructors who serve students suffering from body-image issues, YogaLean II is aimed at providing teachers the tools they need to develop safe and effective yoga classes that meet psychological, emotional, and physical considerations associated with eating disorders. Trainees will learn how to create and sustain an environment of healing and acceptance through the use and practice of the yogic tools of asana, pranayama, philosophy and meditation.  Interactive activities focusing on the teaching and practice of mindfulness skills are emphasized.

    You will learn:

    • To identify empirical evidence that supports the practice of yoga as a tool in the promotion of positive self and body image
    • The physiological, emotional, and mental impact of bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa and binge eating
    • Safe and effective yoga sequences that empower individuals struggling with these disorders
    • To design a class sequence that encourages an environment of self-healing for students stuck anywhere on the continuum of negative self and body image using the comprehensive system of Yoga (philosophy, asana, pranayama, meditation)

Once again, the book is quite good though very basic and introductory. The adaptations given in the book are good, though far more information needs to be given on how to align for warrior one or two using chair support, and tree pose is more effective with a knee to the wall than hand on a chair--teaches trusting the legs and lower body, and chair backs can be the wrong height for many people. The standing flows are very good. The video is dreadful. That is NOT yoga for obese people. No props, no modifications, but there are multiple reps, prolonged weight-bearing on the hands, and twists that larger students can't do due to belly and leg size. The most inaccessible poses for beginners or bulky people were the bound poses with arms behind the back. Very few people can clasp hands in those poses; most need straps, but there is Beth Shaw beaming and talking in that I'm-so-soothing voice about "being in the body you have" when she doesn't teach a class suited for the body the "YogaLean" client has. She doesn't model what the book teaches at all by doing everything without props. Fire her!!! And then when there's a segment of props, there are those silly EGGS. They are unstable compared to a block or a bolster or a blanket. They don't effectively serve as all three the way the segment on those little make-a-buck YogaFit products suggests. ACE should replace this video with one that actually demonstrates the appropriate poses from the book and stop being a marketing depot for Beth Shaw and her bad videos and useless products.

Some disorganization made the questions somewhat confusing, while other questions were too obvious.

Great information. Every instructor (Yoga or other formats) can use this information in every class.

This course focuses mostly on compassion for people who suffer from eating disorders, obesity, destructive behavior and thinking, and overall low self esteem. I am confident that if someone takes this course and is not already compassionate, they will soon develop that compassion. I am happy to see that they have provided modifications to make a pose more comfortable for a person, and more difficult for one who is advancing.

I've been annoyed by the inclusion of the second level of some of the YogaFit courses in the bundle without also including or recommending a pre-requisite for the first level, as some of the test questions are not in the material I actually received. I am an E-RYT500 so I was able to answer those questions anyway, but those without my background might struggle, especially on the YogaFit-specific questions. The information on working with larger clients and those with eating disorders was helpful.

ACE RESPONSE: Thank you for this feedback. An ACE Representative will be in contact with you shortly, via email, to address these concerns. Thank you so much for providing your thoughts.

Good content. Some questions of the quiz are poorly written.

The first 2 questions of the test were not relevant to this particular study course. Otherwise study material very good tool and organization.

ACE RESPONSE: Thank you for your feedback. The quiz has been corrected for future users thanks to your input. Glad you enjoyed the course content.

I have been teaching yoga for many years, but this course made me aware of some very important points- especially concerning body image.
