  •  This course is ideal for personal trainers and fitness professionals looking to expand their teaching expertise into the youth fitness and exercise field.

Based on the Youth Strength Training book and ACE's Guide to Youth Strength Training video, this course explores youth-based resistance training as an essential tool in the fight against childhood obesity and its many related health problems. The authors, Avery D. Faigenbaum, Ed.D., and Wayne L. Westcott, Ph.D., also provide an overview of youth-specific strength-training guidelines. Finally, six full-body workouts are included, each utilizing a different form of resistance-adult-sized resistance machines, child-sized resistance machines, free weights, body weight, elastic bands, and medicine balls.

The 63-minute video, which features Dr. Westcott, presents an overview of the fundamentals of designing and implementing a safe, effective, and time-efficient youth strength-training program.

Upon completion of this course, you will have an understanding of the benefits of physical activity for youth and the current statistics associated with a lack of physical activity. You should also be able to provide safe and effective strength, flexibility, and endurance programs appropriate for this age group.

The information was what I needed and it helped me to design safer more beneficial programs for the youth in the fitness center where I work.
