The Fitness Math Course and You

Fitness MathSo I’ve heard a rumor about the Fitness Math course, and I thought this would be a good place to address it. But before we do that…yes, we’ve already talked about math on the ACE certification exam. However, I’m addressing it again because it seems that math is one of those things that cause candidates a lot of stress.

(If you haven’t read the previous math post, go to Math on the ACE Exam to do so)

Maybe it’s because most of us haven’t practiced math in years – other than counting out our change. Maybe it’s because math was never anybody’s favorite subject.  For either, or maybe both of those reasons, ACE developed the Fitness Math course. The goal of the Fitness Math course is to provide candidates a refresher in math fundamentals and formulas. The math covered in Fitness Math is applicable to the ACE certification exams, but also applicable to your professional life. Sure, you’re likely to use a calculator and/or computer on the job, but it doesn’t hurt to know the steps anyway.

With regards to the Fitness Math course, the biggest issue to address is this: the course does not provide a comprehensive list of formulas on the ACE certification exam. Nope. Not even a short list of formulas on the ACE exam. There is no comprehensive list of formulas you might encounter on the ACE exam. Yes, we have a list of helpful formulas, and suggestions as to what types of formulas you want to be familiar with, but not a list of every formula you should know. That is up to you to figure out.

So if you are taking the Fitness Math course solely to get formulas, then it’s not the course for you. If you are taking the course to refresh your math skills, especially in relation to fitness, then I’d encourage you to sign up. If you are confident with your math, but maybe need just a refresher on percentages…or fractions…or basic algebra…then you might want to check out an online tutorial in that specific subject. Below is one example of a reference for algebra – there are more out there:

Math for Morons – Basic Algebra Equations

Want to sign up for the Fitness Math Course? Just head over to the ACE website to do so!

PS - no post next 2 weeks, but I'll be back June 7!
