All I want to do is take the test!
Facing challenges on your exam day...
You’ve studied and prepared. You’ve eaten a healthy breakfast (or lunch if you’re testing in the afternoon). You’ve got your two forms of ID and your admission ticket. So you’re ready to go, right?
Wait, you don’t have your admission ticket? Log into your ACE account and go to ‘My Exams.’ You should see the option to ‘Print my admission ticket’. But what if your exam says ‘on hold’? Click the ‘clear holds’ link and follow the directions listed to clear any hold.
Have you double checked the directions to your testing site? Yes, they are listed on your admission ticket, but I’d strongly recommend a quick double check just to be sure. Leaving early won’t help if you don’t know where you are going!
Do you have the number for ACE Exam Registration in your phone? Or written down somewhere easy to reach? If you get stuck behind a tipped over semi or a snowplow or a farmer moving hay bales you might want to call in to Exam Reg to let them know you’re running behind. Exam Reg can then let the testing site know you are running late, and what the options might be. P.S. – The number is 1-888-825-3636 x783.
Once you get to the exam site you’ll have to leave everything except yourself, your ID’s, and your admission ticket outside the testing room. This means your backpack/purse/laptop bag, your cell phone/PDA/calculator, and your water bottle/soda/pop/snacks. If you can, you might want to leave your personal items in your vehicle prior to entering the test center. If you can’t do that, you can check to see if the proctor has a secure location to store your stuff until you are done testing.
So… now you’re seated in front of the computer, brain full of knowledge ready to spill out onto the answer sheet. Watch the testing demonstrations! I can’t encourage this enough. It gives you time to get used to the computer, to see how to navigate the ‘answer sheet’, and clear up any confusion about how to navigate the exam. This is extra important for Personal Trainer candidates taking the Written Simulation.
But what if the computer locks up? Or the construction team outside accidently cuts your internet connection? Or the window air conditioner next to you starts blowing out ice cubes? Talk to your proctor! Don’t wait or decide you’ll talk to ACE when the test is all done. If there is a technical problem the proctor needs to know as soon as possible so they can get it resolved. Every keystroke/mouse click you make in your exam is saved and backed up as it is made, so no information should be lost. But a problem can’t be fixed until somebody knows about it, so speak up!
A great resource for these questions, and others, is the Exam Candidate Handbook I’d recommend starting with the table of contents for topics that seem relevant, then thumb through the rest of it looking for tips and hints to help you be successful.
