Appointment signals increasing recognition that supervised physical activity and facilitated behavior change are keys to the national obesity response

SAN DIEGO, April 4, 2014 – The Campaign to End Obesity announced the appointment of Scott Goudeseune, President and CEO of the American Council on Exercise, to the organization’s Board of Directors.

On the Campaign to End Obesity board, Goudeseune joins some of the nation’s preeminent thinkers on the obesity epidemic and the multi-tiered, comprehensive national response that is required to make a lasting impact.

“I’m honored to serve,” Goudeseune said. “The obesity epidemic has a vast, adverse impact on taxpayers, businesses, communities and individuals. I look forward to being part of the conversation across industry, academia, public health and government identifying policy solutions that can turn the trend lines on the nation’s most costly, preventable chronic disease.”

In addition to his work at ACE, Goudeseune also serves as president of the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA), another testament to his commitment in helping to develop policy that supports a healthier society.

“Scott’s 15 years of experience in the fitness industry and intense commitment to improving the health of millions of Americans and reverse our obesity epidemic is why we’re so lucky to have him at our leadership table,” said Stephanie Silverman, co-founder of the Campaign to End Obesity’s Board of Directors. “We value his expertise and his unparalleled commitment to our cause.”

ACE believes that well-qualified, certified health and fitness professionals must be recognized as health providers and become authorized to provide prevention and wellness intervention services in the healthcare environment.
