About
As a group fitness instructor and personal trainer since 1979, I feel like I have "grown up" with the industry. Being a aerobics instructor during the 1980's - teaching 15-20 high impact classes a week and presenting workshops on weekends, all while wearing fun outfits, was exhilarating! At this point in life, I recognize the challenges people have in adapting to the aging process and modifying accordingly. In addition, I can empathize with those striving to become fit after long periods of sedentary living or recovering from health problems. I have had both hips resurfaced (the best alternative to hip replacement!) and have lived a long and healthy life despite a severe kidney ailment (and life-giving surgery) at a young age. My focus now is simply helping people become and remain active long enough to experience the benefit of their activities - which then serves as a motivator to continue their self-care. Observing people discover the joy of movement and the sense of accomplishment is one of the greatest rewards as a health & fitness professional. I admit to being somewhat "old school" in that I like to experience the creative aspect of fitness - composing my own patterns and sequences rather than relying on pre-choreographed routines. While I do enjoy the organizations that produce pre-choreographed classes, and appreciate the tremendous amount of dedication, time, and expertise involved in this process, I still love a good old semi-structured cardio or step class composed by the instructor! We benefit greatly by having all of these options available to suit diverse the needs and preferences of this wonderful profession. My current work as the Wellness Program Manager at Broward College entails working toward creating a workplace environment that supports employees in attaining health and well-being. I also write health-related articles, conduct presentations and seminars on mindfulness and other well-being-related topics. I am an adjunct profess
