About
When I began my own personal journey toward fitness, I thought it was all about losing weight and looking “buff.” Now, as I approach my 6th decade, I realize that the most critical reason for getting and staying fit is for overall health and wellness; to be able to perform all activities of daily living independently, in short, to be functional. I have had several diagnoses (arthritis, myofacsial pain disorder, fibromyalgia and functional scoliosis) to help convince me of this.Secondary fitness goals will vary and are specific to the individual. They may include losing or gaining weight, improving flexibility and endurance, or increasing strength and muscle mass. Getting ready for a particular event (i.e. wedding or class reunion) is a great motivator and goal, but will hopefully not signal the end of a person’s desire to feel better. Non-training adults lose 5 pounds of muscle tissue per decade, resulting in a 3% reduction in metabolic rate. Resistance training (lifting weights, therabands, kettleballs, medicine balls) helps preserve lean muscle tissue and stimulate fat loss, as well as the metabolism. This is important for all ages, but especially for those of us who are more mature. It is my mission to work collaboratively with clients to design a program in line with their specific goals, and to instill in each a desire for fitness at a level that can be maintained, with or without a trainer… to lift for life! Previous career – 35 years in public school education serving as teacher, crisis interventionist and positive support specialist
