The Aprile Approach to Personal Training: 1. The Body Pyramid: Our legs form the base of our stability and strength - the leg muscles are the base of the body pyramid. The second tier of the pyramid is the torso - more specifically the muscles that stabilize and manipulate the spine and the pelvis (usually referred to as the "core"). The top of the pyramid is the upper back, shoulders and arms. The body should always be conditioned from the bottom of the pyramid towards the top. 2. Train The Body From the Inside, Out: Developing any kind of strength or endurance starts with the deep muscles (those close to the skeleton), not the superficial muscles or "mirror muscles." Looks can be deceiving - looking fit and being strong are not the same thing. My training programs focus on teaching proper alignment, control and stabilization before progressing towards developing power and performance. 3. The Kinetic Chain: Being able to lift heavy weights or do a lot of repetitions does not always correspond directly to increased athletic performance and/or functional strength. The key to the kinetic chain is the center of the body pyramid. The muscles in the abdominal region and around the spine must be powerful enough both to protect the body, and to brake and control the speed and momentum generated by movements at either extremity. 4. All clients are created equal and that they all deserve outstanding service and attention. I treat each person as an individual by customizing every aspect of my services to facilitate my client's learning, progression and safety.
