Since 1994 I have taught a variety of fitness formats in diverse settings including senior centers, universities, onboard cruise ships, and as a P.E. teacher for at-risk children. I currently teach yoga and cycling. My first aerobics certification trainer told us--a group of rookies--that it was our job to be, “movement motivators and entertaining educators.” I think that is what makes people come to a group exercise class instead of taking an online class at home—the energy created between the participants in the room. This energy is what motivates me whether I am teaching a lively cycling class or a relaxing flow yoga class. I encourage each participant to reach his or her movement goals by coaching body awareness, communicating proper exercise execution, and—above all—having fun.
