"The Hunger Games" may not be real, but you can still bring the intensity of the game of survival to your workouts — without dying at the end.
Eric Salvador, a master trainer and former marine, designed a 45-minute workout based on the first book for the New York Sports Club, MSNBC reported. Philadelphia, Boston and Washington, D.C. will also offer classes.
Salvador told MSNBC he selected exercises to simulate the four skills necessary for survival in the hunger game — archery, tree climbing, speed work and strength. There are Katniss kickbacks and Peeta presses, archery work, tree climbing using TRX bands and a "Sprint to the Cornucopia" in which participants race to the center of the room and grab their equipment one at a time.
MTV reported on the workout and even posted this video from it.
This interval-based workout seems to definitely make participants work up a sweat. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) can be a very effective workout that produces results in a short amount of time.
Some people don't think it's fun to base a workout on survival games where participants literally kill one another. What do you think? Would you give this workout a try?
