ACE Public Outreach

While the American Council on Exercise® (ACE®) is dedicated to improving the professional standards of the fitness industry, our mission also extends beyond fitness professionals to all segments of society. ACE is actively involved in a variety of initiatives that range in impact from the individual to societal level, with the goal of enriching quality of life through safe and effective physical activity.

ACE Get Fit

ACE has remained among the most respected and trusted resources in the industry for our specialized training and ability to evolve in this ever-changing environment. To expand our reach, we created the ACE Get Fit initiative, an online comprehensive source of trustworthy health and fitness tools, exercise information and resources for consumers that is available any time, any place. The ACE Get Fit initiative informs, inspires, supports, educates and empowers people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle by offering free, credible, safe, effective and easily-accessible health and fitness information.

University-Based Research & Workout Watchdog

ACE regularly sponsors extensive, third-party independent research in all areas of health and fitness to protect consumers against unsafe and ineffective products, programs and trends. Publishing this information, we educate the public regarding scientifically sound practices in easy-to-understand language, empowering them to make better-informed decisions for a healthy lifestyle.

ACE has proudly earned the reputation of consumer advocate and “Workout Watchdog” through ongoing research, studies and reviews as well as public education available at no cost. In some cases, these studies have prompted the Federal Trade Commission to take action against several companies making false claims. ACE is committed to promoting safe and effective exercise to consumers of all ages.

Operation FitKids®

With childhood obesity rates on the rise, ACE offers the Operation FitKids® curriculum to get kids moving. Designed for educators, fitness professionals, health professionals and parents looking to integrate health and fitness activities into a classroom setting, this free program provides downloadable lessons, youth fitness facts and other free resources on youth fitness. Childhood obesity is a healthcare crisis that ACE does not take lightly, and it is our mission to combat the health and fitness challenges America faces today to create a healthier future for tomorrow’s children.

Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA)

President's Active Lifestyle Award

The President's Council on Fitness Sports and Nutrition offers the President's Active Lifestyle Award. This program encourages people to add activity to their lives, asking all children and adults to commit to daily physical activity for 6 out of 8 weeks and provides tools to track progress and rewards upon program completion. It's a great chance for friends, family and clients to take part in an enjoyable and rewarding program that can set them on the path to better health and fitness. With adult and childhood obesity being a major crisis affecting Americans in the 21st century, ACE is devoted to educating consumers about the critical need to regularly engage in physical activity by connecting its vast network of certified fitness professionals with consumers at the local level to promote active, healthy lifestyles.

2010 Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit

ACE and Henkel Help Kids Get Fit

In 2010 Henkel, the company behind some of the nation’s leading consumer brands such as Dial®, Purex®, Renuzit®, Right Guard®, and Soft Scrub®, reached out to ACE to help promote Henkel Helps Get Kids Fit. This campaign, accompanied by an integrated in-store, direct and online marketing campaign, was created to encourage parents, students, educators and community members to nominate their local school by answering a fundamental question: “What would your school do with $25,000 to improve youth fitness?”

To help bring attention to growing childhood obesity rates, ACE proudly supports Henkel Helps Kids Get Fit and will continue to promote the positive benefits of safe and effective physical activity for the youth of the nation, in addition to offering education and resources, such as Operation FitKids™, to those who are helping to motivate and inspire our younger generations.

National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA)

National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA)

ACE plays a key role on the board of directors of the NCPPA, a preeminent force promoting physical activity and fitness initiatives in this country. An alliance of exemplary national affiliations, including the American Cancer Society (ACS) and President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, NCPPA independently addresses a host of issues pertaining to physical activity including health/science, education, environments,population-specific outreach and activity behavior.

ACE also serves on the NCPPA Public Policy and Strategic Planning Committees, which focus on the development of an advocacy and legislative agenda that aligns with our current goal of engaging our professionals in grassroots legislation and lobbying for a more-fit America. ACE has worked toward this goal with the NCPPA and is executing numerous important initiatives. This includes developing a consensus policy platform encompassing NCPPA policy framework and promotion of the group’s contribution to legislation, introducing the Personal Health Investment Today Act in the 111th Congress, and creating a database of state legislation regarding physical activity that has been signed into law in recent years.

ACE is committed to advancing the NCPPA’s mission to unite the strengths of public, private and industry efforts into collaborative partnerships that inspire and empower all Americans to lead more physically-active lives.

National Physical Activity Plan (The Plan)

NCPPA Plans

The National Physical Activity Plan is a comprehensive initiative to improve public health—an effort to motivate people in every community to become and stay physically active, and to remove the barriers that may stand in their way. ACE is actively involved in this initiative serving as the business industry co-sector leader with AHA and the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA).

A roadmap to get America moving, The Plan addresses all the behavioral, policy, educational, medical and physical infrastructure issues that affect how and why so many Americans are not physically active. It unites professionals across sectors in medicine and public health, transportation and urban planning, business, education and recreation — in a massive effort to join forces and find solutions for the nation’s inactivity.

The NCPPA is working closely with organizations serving as leaders in eight sectors to develop a national implementation plan for immediate action. ACE and other partner organizations implement the plan strategies at the national, regional and grassroots levels. As a co-sector leader, ACE facilitates and coordinates plan implementation to set forth changes in policies and practices that will influence physical-activity behaviors.
