GENAVIX Wellness Network will strengthen corporate health programs with American Council on Exercise’s accredited Health Coach Certification

SAN DIEGO, March 14, 2014 – In the United States, nearly 70 percent of adults older than 20 are overweight. Most American adults spend 40-plus hours per week at work, so the work environment is a fertile ground for wellness interventions. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the GENAVIX Wellness Network are partnering to address the weaknesses in many workplace wellness programs by using ACE Certified Health Coaches to deliver programs designed to give the individual the necessary education and experience to establish customized fitness, nutrition, stress management and behavior modification plans.

The GENAVIX Wellness Network is a growing network of independently owned fitness facilities that operate the GENAVIX turn-key wellness practice and technology platform targeting corporate and family wellness programming on top of its successful membership business.

“Research shows that instilling sustainable healthy behavior patterns, including regular physical activity and sound nutrition, is key to addressing the obesity epidemic,” said ACE CEO and President Scott Goudeseune.  “Inserting ACE Certified Health Coaches into the Network is a major step toward delivering the type and variety of programming and support that actually enables employees to attain and maintain a favorable health status. A comprehensive approach is the key to helping workforces establish lifelong healthy behavioral patterns.”

GENAVIX Wellness Network is comprised of 24 health clubs throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine with plans to expand.  Its HealthyCARE 90 Day Commit to Get Fit Program approaches change with four components—nutrition, fitness, stress management and behavioral modification. Over the course of 13 weeks, participants interact with certified GENAVIX Wellness Coaches. Those experts are now encouraged to hold the ACE Health Coach Certification, the only accredited health coaching certification in the nation.

The credential incorporates expertise on weight management psychology, the physiology of obesity, techniques for lifestyle coaching, development of exercise programs, and the relationship between exercise and nutrition for weight control.

“Healthier employees have lower absenteeism, enhanced levels of engagement, higher productivity and greater levels of job satisfaction, while less healthy employees raise employer healthcare and insurance costs,” said GENAVIX President and CEO Mike Benton. “By partnering with ACE, we are ensuring that the delivery of our program is facilitated by professionals who are well trained in weight management, nutrition, physical activity and overall behavior modification.”

The ACE Health Coach Certification is the only certification of its kind accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). NCCA accreditation is the gold standard accreditation for the majority of professional certifications in healthcare, fitness and allied health.

“Making highly qualified, science-based, interdisciplinary coaching, counseling, and support for sustainable behavioral change a functional and integral component of the nation’s healthcare continuum has never been more important to employers and the health of our nation,” added Goudeseune.
