The President’s Council will celebrate the month with its free, annual HealthierUS Fitness Festival at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on May 2, 2005 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As in previous years, the President’s Council observes National Physical Fitness and Sports month by creating partnerships that will strengthen the message about the importance of physical activity and fitness throughout life for Americans of all ages and abilities.

In May, American’s are encouraged to follow President Bush’s HealthierUS initiative helping Americans take steps to improve personal health and fitness. The goals of the initiative are to persuade all Americans to be physically active every day, eat a nutritious diet, get preventive screenings and make healthy choices.

In support of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, ACE encourages Americans learn more about leading a healthier lifestyle by visiting the ACE Web site www.acefitness.org where they can find a variety of health and fitness tips, healthy recipes and more.

As an official partner, the American Council on Exercise will send celebrity ACE-certified trainer, Chris Freytag, to lead a group fitness workout during the HealthierUS Fitness Festival on May 2. Additional ACE fitness experts will be present to aid in fitness demonstrations, exhibits, interactive sports, games, health screenings and giveaways.
