SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Oct. 14, 2004 – The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s non-profit fitness advocate, is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with the United States Sports Academy (USSA), “America’s Sport University.” USSA is a non-profit institution that provides certification and sport-specific degree and distance learning programs to students, teachers and administrators around the world. In collaborative efforts, ACE and USSA will provide continuing and advanced educational opportunities for ACE-certified fitness professionals and Academy students.

“Partnering with the United States Sports Academy reaffirms ACE’s commitment to continue to provide quality educational opportunities for our fitness professionals,” said Graham Melstrand, director of educational services for ACE. “ACE will work with USSA to update existing courses and develop new curriculum that meet both university credit and ACE requirements.”

This is the first time ACE has partnered with a university that offers advanced degrees in exercise science and sports management with both traditional and distance learning options. Through the partnership, ACE-certified fitness professionals can meet their continuing education needs and are also able to enhance their qualifications by earning an advanced degree at the Academy.

“We recognize ACE’s reputation as a leader in fitness certification and we view the alliance as an added benefit to both ACE-certified professionals and Academy students,” said Dr. T.J. Rosandich, USSA vice president and chief operating officer. “We hope this relationship opens the doors for ACE-certified professionals to seek a degree in the sports profession.”

USSA students who are currently enrolled in degree programs will now have the opportunity to sit for an ACE exam at the Academy and earn certification in areas including personal trainer, group fitness instructor and clinical exercise specialist.
