SAN DIEGO (August 8, 2012) – As the premier authority on professional development for fitness professionals, American Council on Exercise (ACE) has forged a partnership with respected health care publisher, F.A. Davis Company, to release a series of core academic texts.

The Foundations of Exercise Science series will begin with the release of Exercise Physiology and Psychology of Health and Fitness in fall 2013 and culminate with the release of three additional books on applied sports nutrition (2014), biomechanics and program design (both 2015).

Aimed at ACE-certified professionals, professors and students in undergraduate- and graduate-level courses, each of the books will be written by a team of ACE subject-matter experts led by ACE Chief Science Officer Cedric Bryant, Ph.D.

“We are extremely excited about this partnership for a number of reasons,” Bryant said. “One, it gives us a chance to provide faculty and students with application-focused core exercise science textbooks that put the principles of exercise physiology, biomechanics, nutrition and behavioral psychology into practice. And two, it gives us a chance to capitalize on  our reputation as a key authority on academic and professional development for fitness professionals alongside a well-respected name in the health care publishing industry.”

Like all of ACE’s textbooks, the Foundations of Exercise Science series will focus on turning theory into practice. Each chapter of the texts will stress the core reason for gaining an understanding of the key physiological principles and how to translate that knowledge into improved health, fitness and performance. A major distinguishing feature of in this series will be the applied approach of each text to ensure readers gain knowledge and understanding that’s relevant and practical.

“We have a long history of producing best-selling textbooks, references and educational software for students and professionals in the allied health industry, and we’re excited to put that experience to work with the most trusted name in fitness,” said Quincy McDonald, Senior Acquisitions Editor for F.A. Davis Company. “Our experts will help ACE facilitate peer reviews for all of the material, ensuring the highest quality of information for fitness professionals, and professors and students in university settings.”

Beginning in fall 2013, when Exercise Physiology and Psychology of Health and Fitness are released, the text will be available through ACE National Accounts at (800) 825-3636, F.A. Davis at (800) 323-3555 or on www.FADavis.com, and at bookstores nationwide.
