AMERICAN COUNCIL ON EXERCISE (ACE) APPOINTS CARMELLA SPENCER, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – July 29, 2002 –The American Council on Exercise (ACE), America’s nonprofit fitness advocate, today announced that Carmella Spencer has joined ACE as Marketing Director. Spencer will be responsible for strengthening and managing ACE’s marketing initiatives, strategies and messages while adhering to the established mission of promoting active, healthy lifestyles and the positive effects on the mind, body and spirit to all segments of society.

Prior to joining ACE, Spencer served as the General Sales & Marketing Manager – Email Marketing Solutions at BlueHornet Networks. At BlueHornet, Spencer developed sales and marketing strategy, product mix, pricing models and increased billable sales by 50%. Spencer’s experience also includes serving as the general sales manager – Internet Division of Internet Broadcasting Systems at TheSanDiegoChannel.com, KGTV 10.

“Leadership is key in any strong organization,” said Ken Germano, executive director of ACE. “Carmella’s experience and dedication will prove critical for the American Council on Exercise as we move forward as the leading provider of certification and education to the professional, commercial, and retail fitness markets.”

In 1997, Spencer joined the San Diego Union-Tribune to help lead in the creation of SignOnSanDiego.com. Her responsibilities included overseeing the development of online sales and marketing strategies, new product offerings and technology implementation for all aspects of the website. While there, she also was Site Sales and Marketing Manager, responsible for an online sales and marketing team of 45, selling new and innovative Internet marketing services to local area businesses and launching San Diego’s most comprehensive city guide in partnership with Ticketmaster Online-Citysearch.

Spencer’s background includes several years in corporate training and human resource management as well as an 18-year tenure with American Airlines.
