SAN DIEGO—The Mid-Atlantic Club Management Association (MACMA) has selected the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to be a preferred certification provider for its network of 70 clubs.

Through this relationship, all fitness professionals working for a MACMA member club will have the opportunity to become ACE certified. ACE, the largest nonprofit fitness certifying organization, sets the standards for certification in the fitness industry. Since 1985, nearly 165,000 people have taken ACE exams. Currently, there are approximately 50,000 active ACE-certified fitness professionals in the U.S. and 77 other countries.

MACMA is a regional nonprofit trade association affiliated with IHRSA. It was created by club owners and managers in the Mid-Atlantic states to address the needs of the industry in that region. MACMA is dedicated to educating and promoting the private health, racquet, and fitness club industry in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

ACE Faculty will work with MACMA to coordinate practical training programs and continuing education courses on exercise techniques and business development skills. These continuing education programs will help build the career paths of personal trainers and group fitness instructors and will increase the level of service at each club. In addition, MACMA fitness professionals will have the opportunity to become ACE Master Practical Trainers, allowing them to train fellow professionals.

MACMA is excited about offering member clubs additional benefits through our partnership with ACE, said, Julia Wheatley, MACMA president. By increasing the number of educational opportunities and giving our clubs more exposure to the public, we feel we are accomplishing our association mission.
